China Southern Airlines to Resume Perth Route

China Southern Airlines will soon reconnect Western Australia with mainland China by resuming its service to Guangzhou. Starting from 28 November 2024, the flights will operate on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, providing a vital link between the two regions.

Flight Details

The airline's Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft will transport passengers on this route. The business class offers 28 lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, while premium economy accommodates 28 passengers in a 2-3-2 layout. Economy class provides seating for 220 travelers in a 3-3-3 arrangement.

Boosting Western Australia's Tourism

Kate Holsgrove, Perth Airport's chief commercial and aviation officer, expressed enthusiasm about the announcement. She emphasized the significance of the Chinese visitor market for tourism, business, education, and exports. In 2023, China was already Western Australia's fourth-largest market, with 54,000 visitors contributing $230 million to the economy. The non-stop services are expected to positively impact visitation numbers.

Service Frequency and Capacity

The China Southern Airlines service will operate three times a week—on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. This schedule will deliver a total of 86,000 seats and 5,000 tonnes of cargo capacity to the Perth market.

History of the Route

China Southern Airlines initially launched service between its Guangzhou hub and Perth in November 2011. The resumption of this route marks an important milestone in strengthening air connectivity between the two regions.

Earlier this year, South African Airways also resumed its service to Perth, further enhancing the city's global connectivity.
