David Bowie Mugshot: A Look Back at the Iconic 1976 Drug Arrest with Iggy Pop

David Bowie, the legendary singer, found himself in a black and white mugshot after being arrested on drug charges in Rochester, New York, back in 1976. The incident occurred following a show at the Community War Memorial Arena, where Bowie had performed.

The Arrest and Charges

Alongside Iggy Pop, Bowie faced marijuana possession charges after police confiscated “about half a pound” of weed from the Americana Rochester Hotel. All four were briefly held in custody before being released on bail for $2,000.

Legal Outcome

Bowie pleaded not guilty, and the charges were eventually dropped. However, he never returned to perform in Rochester.

The Mugshot

The recently unearthed mugshot, captured on original Kodak paper, measures 9.5 x 9.5 cm. It remained hidden for 46 years before being auctioned off for an impressive £3,800.

Behind the Scenes

Before their Berlin era, Bowie and Iggy Pop shared an apartment, creating classic albums like "Low," "Heroes," and "Lust for Life." Their wild partying during the 1976 Station to Station tour marked a memorable chapter in music history.
