Panasonic's Dynamic Theatre Surround Sound System: A Game-Changer for Small OLED TVs

By Alastair Stevenson | Last updated: 15 May 2024

When it comes to small OLED TVs, there's often a trade-off between picture quality and audio performance. Panasonic, however, has a bold solution: integrating a built-in soundbar into its step-down Z90A OLED TV lineup.

The Dynamic Theatre Surround Sound System

Panasonic's latest innovation is the Dynamic Theatre Surround sound system. While it doesn't boast Dolby Atmos or side-firing speakers, it's a significant step up from basic TV speakers. The soundbar features front-firing drivers and a built-in subwoofer, delivering improved audio quality.

Why Add a Soundbar to Small OLED TVs?

Neil Loyd Meek, Panasonic's head of digital training, explained the rationale behind this decision: "We did that for our customers. It’s for people that are looking for major picture and sound quality, but are tight on space; a person who doesn't have the ability to maybe add a soundbar or speaker system, or who just doesn’t want to deal with cable management."

Given the design limitations of smaller TVs, audio quality often suffers. Panasonic aims to change that by offering a compact OLED TV with impressive sound, catering to those who prioritize both aesthetics and performance.

Unique Selling Point

If Panasonic succeeds in delivering good sound quality in its smaller Z90A OLED models, it could be a game-changer. Consumers seeking a balance between space-saving design and audio excellence will find the Dynamic Theatre Surround sound system a compelling feature.
