Aurigny Enhances Fleet with New ATR Aircraft

Guernsey-based airline Aurigny has taken steps to improve the reliability of its services by leasing two additional ATR aircraft. The move comes after the airline's punctuality rate fell below the UK average in recent months due to unforeseeable technical events.

Reducing Cancellations and Delays

Aurigny's CEO, Nico Bezuidenhout, emphasized that safety remains a top priority. Despite recent challenges, the airline has a clear plan to recover its schedule. The decision to add two ATR 72-600s to the fleet aims to reduce cancellations and delays.

Challenges Faced

The airline has grappled with various issues, including delays, replacement aircraft, and even an overshooting incident. Passengers have expressed concerns about expanded routes stretching the airline too thin.

Overstretched Operations

David Piesing, a regular Aurigny passenger, believes the airline is operating too many routes with insufficient aircraft. He suggests exploring wet leasing, where planes and crew are leased on a pay-as-you-fly basis, although cost considerations pose challenges.

Looking Ahead

While a reduction in routes could enhance resilience, the reliability issues pre-date the new routes. Aurigny remains committed to providing safe and efficient travel for both business travelers and island residents.
