Highly Suspect Announces New Album: As Above, So Below

Gojira-approved alt-rock experimentalists Highly Suspect have unveiled their highly anticipated new album, As Above, So Below, along with its swaggering, psychedelic lead single and opening track, "Summertime Voodoo."

Natural Sound: Singer Johnny Stevens exclusively tells Revolver that this album was both incredibly difficult and remarkably easy to write. The most natural-sounding Highly Suspect album ever, almost everything you hear was done in one take. With the exception of occasional overdubs, most of what you're hearing is live. The band aimed to create an album that wouldn't rely on backing tracks during live performances.

Behind the Music: Stevens shares an interesting tidbit: one song on the album was born out of an argument. During a long day in the studio, drummer Ryan Meyer was exhausted, and tensions ran high. Stevens and guitarist Matt Kofos were frustrated that Meyer couldn't hit the drums with the necessary energy. After a few hours at the bar, they returned with a super angry riff, and Meyer suddenly blasted the drums perfectly. The band was accused of doing coke that night, but it was just a couple of drunk kids banging on guitars out of frustration.
