HSE Underlines Measles Symptoms After Laois Scare

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has issued a public health alert in Laois, urging people to be vigilant about the symptoms of measles. If you were at the Emergency Department (ED) of Regional Hospital Portlaoise on Friday, April 26th, between 1pm and 6pm, you may have been exposed to the virus. Additionally, those present between 2.40pm on Sunday and 6pm on Monday evening could also be affected.

What to Look Out For

Dr. Desmond Hickey, a Consultant in Public Health Medicine, advises individuals to watch for the following symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Red, watery eyes
  • Rash (typically starting on the face and spreading)

If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical attention promptly. Measles is highly contagious, and early detection is crucial to prevent further spread.
