During my recent encounter with No. 1 overall draft pick Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever, I made a regrettable mistake. In this candid piece, I address my error and offer a sincere apology.

The Incident

As someone known for my candid conversations, I approached Caitlin Clark with my signature heart-shaped hand gesture during a nationally televised press conference. Little did I realize that my approach was misguided, and I inadvertently crossed a line.

Recognizing Ignorance

Reflecting on the incident, I recognize that my actions were rooted in ignorance. I failed to consider the context and treated Caitlin as I would any other athlete, without recognizing the nuances that come with gender differences.

Learning and Growth

My journey through denial and anger led me to a place of understanding. I now acknowledge that my words and gestures were inappropriate. I apologize to Caitlin and her family for any discomfort I caused.

As a sports columnist, I am committed to learning from this experience and being more mindful in my interactions. Caitlin Clark, I am truly sorry.
