Health Crisis in Argentina

Argentina is currently grappling with the most severe dengue outbreak in its history. The number of cases reported this year has skyrocketed by a staggering 200 per cent compared to the same period in 2023.

Brazil's Vaccination Campaign

Not far behind, Brazil has initiated its first-ever vaccination campaign against dengue. This mosquito-borne disease can be potentially deadly, and the country is responding to record infections.

President Milei's Dilemma

President Javier Milei of Argentina faces a tough decision. While pursuing economic austerity measures, he has rejected calls to fund public health information campaigns. Vaccination efforts seem out of the question, but the Aedes aegypti mosquito, responsible for transmitting dengue, Zika virus, and chikungunya, continues to thrive.

Climate Change and Mosquito Proliferation

Climate change exacerbates the situation. Hot and steamy conditions provide an ideal breeding ground for mosquitos, leading to more infections in the Americas last year than ever before.
